division (Sindhi poem #2)

– Madhuri Lalwani, II B.A. English

the midnight of August 15, 1947
my people were asked to flee
their own homes,
stripped of their identities
forced to alien lands
always a stranger to,
and every generation since
has been alien to their homes.

in a way
Sindh wasn’t Sindhi anymore
Sindhis were the only remnants of Sindh.

and every time independence is celebrated
my people struggle a loss unknown to the rest of the mankind,
my people continue to live
and as we live,
lives an undeniable death of
Sindh,
people fail to see.
